Amartya Sen is Lamont University Professor, and Professor of Economics and Philosophy, at Harvard University. Previously, he was Master of Trinity College, Cambridge University. In 1998, Sen received the Nobel Memorial Prize for his research in welfare economics, a branch of the discipline that examines how policy affects community well-being.
