Prabhat Patnaik and Joseph Stiglitz discuss the global financial crisis. Jomo Kwame Sundaram will moderate.
Prabhat Patnaik is a professor at the Centre for Economic Studies and Planning in the School of Social Sciences at Jawaharlal Nehru University, where he specializes in macroeconomics and political economy. He also serves as Vice-Chairman of the Kerala State Planning Board.
Joseph E. Stiglitz is a University Professor at Columbia University. He has been a Professor of Economics at Stanford, Princeton, Yale and All Souls College, Oxford. Stiglitz was awarded the Nobel Prize for economics in 2001 for his analyses of markets with asymmetric information and his role in creating a new branch of economics, “the economics of information.”
Both Professor Patnaik and Professor Stiglitz are members of the U.N. task force to recommend reforms of the global financial system.
