Globalization & the Logic of International Collective Action

Type Book Excerpt
Author(s) Joseph Stiglitz
University Professor
Department of Economics
Columbia University

In "Globalization and the Logic of International Collective Action: Re-examining the Bretton Woods Institutions", Joseph Stiglitz argues that some of the flaws in Bretton Woods institutions may be attributed to the underdeveloped theories of collective action and market failure that were in circulation at the time of the institutions' founding. From the perspective of global public goods and global externalities, Stiglitz analyzes the IMF and World Bank and works toward a greater understanding of the necessity of collective action at the global level.
