Headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, the World Trade Organization is an international organization that monitors the rules that govern international trade. Established in 1995, the WTO is the successor organization to the General Agreements on Tariffs and Trade. The WTO deals with the rules of trade between nations at a near-global level; it is responsible for negotiating and implementing new trade agreements, and is in charge of policing member countries' adherence to all the WTO agreements, signed by the majority of the world's trading nations and ratified in their parliaments. It currently has 153 members, representing over 95% of world trade. / Website
